New York City Ballet returns to Lincoln Center’s Koch Theater on September 21st after an unprecedented 17-month hiatus from live performance. The eagerly awaited return season includes Jerome Robbins and Philip Glass’s enduringly popular work Glass Pieces, an appropriate homage to metropolitan life and culture in New York. Also programmed is the return of Justin Peck’s Rotunda, the company’s final world premiere before lockdown. Rotunda is a pared-down celebration of pure dance, with intimations of improvisation and playful experimentation that mirror the brilliance of the commissioned score from Nico Muhly.
For the fall Fashion Gala on September 30 and the “Innovators & Icons” series October 1–12, choreographer Sidra Bell collaborates with Brooklyn-based designer Christopher John Rogers for a world premiere featuring scoring by Oliver Davis. This production marks Davis’s third production for NYCB and includes music from Solace, the album Davis created during lockdown, working collaboratively and remotely with soloists, ensembles, and authors from around the world.
