"The US adaptation of 'House Of Cards'," describes Beal, "is a hybrid story, which layers Shakespearian, Machiavellian intrigue over a backdrop of contemporary politics. There is a sophistication and wit to these characters…I strove to give a musical voice to their world in the music; to somehow echo the complex, dangerous and sly waters they tread in their quest for power and revenge."
With its promise of suspense, deceit, and political intrigue, the complete Season 4 of 'House of Cards,' a Netflix original series, began streaming on March 4th. Varese Sarabande will release a double-CD of the Season 4 soundtrack on April 15th. It's available for pre-order from Amazon. Also now available on rental is Beal's Pollock Suite, a 6-minute work for orchestra. Composed in 2000, the suite's music is from 'Pollock,' the feature film directed by Ed Harris that chronicled the life of American painter Jackson Pollock.
"The score has a sense of joy and energy," Beal explains, "which served to provide a dramatic contrast in the film with the darker side of Pollock's story: a brilliant artist, haunted with bi-polar disorder and a self-destructive alcoholism."
