Reviews

An ideal introduction to the music of Esa-Pekka Salonen, featuring his 2007 Piano Concerto and other works. The frenetic, craggy concerto pulses for 30 inexorable minutes with spiky harmonies, pummeling piano chords and, in one playful episode, a sweeping neo-Romantic melody. The pianist Yefim Bronfman is the brilliant soloist in a live performance.
Anthony Tommasini, The New York Times, 12/1/2009

Esa-Pekka Salonen [is] among classical Grammy nominees... Esa-Pekka Salonen, the former music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, received a nomination in the category of best instrumental soloist performance with orchestra for th Deutsche Grammophon recording of his "Piano Concerto" featuring pianist Yefim Bronfman.
David Ng, Los Angeles Times, 12/2/2009

Salonen the composer is more openly expressive than Salonen the conductor; on a new Deutsche Grammophon recording, you can hear his Piano Concerto, which rivals the Romantic showpieces of yesteryear in its brash gestures and lush textures.
Alex Ross, The New Yorker, 4/27/2009

Tghe nine-minute Helix has a concentrated power and momentum I haven't heard in Salonen's music before...
, Finish Music Quarterly, 1/1/2009

... the new collection is an exuberant demonstration of Salonen's multi-layeres gifts as he takes up the reigns of London's Philharmonia Orchestra and bids Los Angeles adieu.
David Gutman, International Record Review, 4/1/2009
