Programme Note
John Tavener Little Requiem for Father Malachy Lynch (1972)
Father Malachy was responsible for the re-founding of the Carmelite Priory at Aylesford, Kent, where he was Prior. I began the Requiem on returning from his dramatic open air funeral; the music has for me a deeply personal connection with Father Malachy, hence the use of the Latin singular throughout.
