Albert Guinovart El lament de la terra (2008)
Commissioned by the OBC (Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya) in 2008, the score is also dedicated to this prestigious orchestra. Premiered 9th January 2009 by the OBC directed by Roberto Minczuk at the Auditori de Barcelona.

This work is a symphonic poem about the idea of men mistreating the earth. It is not divided into movements, but there are three distinguishable thematic parts. The first part is longer and handles the topic of the “creative and romantic” men (symbolised by the first meter of “The Song of the Earth” by Gustav Mahler) getting into a conflict with the “destructive” men (symbolised by musical tunes with a military and urban touch). This part ends with a cataclysm symbolised by means of a dodecaphonic chord.

The second part is shorter and represents the desert musically, nothingness after a cataclysm. It is a textural part.

The third and last section is a chant for the hope of a better future. The military rhythm of the beginning becomes the accompaniment of this hymn for hope.
