Programme Note

Parasto (2006)
- for violin, cello and piano

The title, the name Parasto, means 'swallow' in Persian. I think that sounds so good (like something in between Sarastro and Papageno).

The music is very much about freedom, in terms of both the material and form of the piece, inspired as it is by all the space (and time) the swallow has when it does its aerobatics in and out of our field of vision.

So the music is not intended solely as a traditional, poetic interpretation of the swallow. It often expresses itself intensely through powerful sounds and notes that seem like a more concrete foreground in a musical landscape.
