Programme Note
*Cathedral' can be split into three sections:
The first in an intimade parlando which is developed.
The next one is a wide midsection, where long lines intersect each other, and where flageoletto notes eventually create a sense of tonality that is crystallised and lights up (like a halo) on a backdrop of brutal glissandos. Gentleness and ferocity (vulgarity) is juxtaposed.
In the end, new and earlier heard material is treated in different ways, before the music freezes in the last phrase.
Cathedral>/b> was composed in 1986. Since, the work has been revised and has received its present title.
