Jesper Nordin (*1971) is a leading Swedish composer, and one who has garnered considerable international acclaim in recent years. His music, with its powerful emotional impact and traces of traditional Swedish folk music, rock music and improvised music, is broadcast and performed throughout the world. His music is performed by conductors like Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding and Kent Nagano and musicians like Martin Fröst and Pekka Kuusisto. His orchestral pieces have been played and/or commissioned by such orchestras as the San Francisco Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Philharmonia Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the Swedish Radio Symphony. He is also included in the repertoires of several of the world’s foremost contemporary music ensembles, amongst them Ensemble Intercontemporain, ensemble recherche, L’Itineraire, Quaturo Diotima, Talea and The San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. As a developer of music software he has founded the startups Gestrument & Reactional Music that have released apps and interactive music for video games.

Jesper Nordin’s music is starting to make a mark on the international music scene with its characteristic sound world and powerful emotional impact. The music of Jesper Nordin, with its traces of traditional Swedish folk music, rock music and improvised music, is performed and broadcast throughout the world. His orchestral music has been performed by symphony orchestras like San Francisco Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Philharmonia Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Basel Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, St Paul Chamber, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and many others. He has worked with conductors like Esa-Pekka Salonen, Kent Nagano, Daniel Harding, Pierre-André Valade, François Xavier Roth, Eivind Gullberg-Jensen and Franck Ollu. Apart from his orchestral music he is also regularly performed by major contemporary music ensembles. His music has been programmed by for instance Ensemble Intercontemporain, ensemble recherche, Quatuor Diotima, Ensemble Itinérare and Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain and ASKO ensemble in Europe, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players andTalea in the US. He has received commissions from major ensembles and institutions in Europe, including IRCAM, the French Ministry of Culture, Mairie de Paris as well as several Art Councils and radio stations in Europe and North America. He has received many international awards as well as Swedens most prestigious composition prize - the Royal Christ Johnson Award. His music has been played at several ISCM festivals as well as festivals like ManiFeste, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, Biennale Musique en Scéne, Ultima, Tokyo Summer Music Festival, Montréal New Music, Archipel and others. After studies with Pär Lindgren, Bent Sørensen and William Brunson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm he studied at IRCAM in Paris with Philippe Leroux and was later invited as a ”Visiting Scholar” to Stanford University for studies with Brian Ferneyhough and research at the CCRMA studio. From 2004 to 2006 he was Composer in Residence at P2, the Swedish Radio’s serious music channel. His music has been release on several labels including BIS, KAIROS and SR Records. His work at different electroacoustic studios around the world has made electronics a major part of his musical language both as a composer and as a performer with different constellations. As a developer of music software he has founded the startups Gestrument & Reactional Music that have released apps and interactive music for video games.
