According to the American Symphony Orchestra League's statistics, Mozart's 250th birthday anniversary dominated concert programs this season. However, Joan Tower's Made in America — her groundbreaking commission sponsored by the Ford Foundation, ASOL, and Meet the Composer — is the most performed contemporary work of the 2005-2006 season. The distinction is defined as a work composed within the last 25 years, and with two more seasons to follow, Made in America is on course to break some records.

Other G. Schirmer/AMP composers to make the most performed list are John Adams, Samuel Barber, and Aaron Jay Kernis.

In response to the appearance of The New York Times Book Review's top novels of the last 25 years, Greg Stepanich of The Palm Beach Post named John Corigliano’s Symphony No. 1 as the top American composition for the same period.
