As Malcolm Arnold approaches his 85th birthday, forthcoming performances prove that the composer’s music continues to be a popular choice amongst orchestras of all levels.

The coming months will see performances of the Guitar Concerto by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Brighton Philharmonic, and Symphony No 2 by the Westminster Philharmonic and Northampton Symphony Orchestra. In February, the Birmingham Philharmonic will give two all-Arnold concerts in celebration of the composer’s 85th birthday. In April the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra includes the Tam O’Shanter Overture in its Scottish tour. David Atherton will conduct the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra in three performances of the Four Scottish Dances in May, and in June, in what promises to be a memorable event, the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden will stage Arnold’s Homage to the Queen.

Malcolm Arnold’s birthday falls in October 2006. Information about the composer and his music is available from Sam Wilcock
