Jocelyn Pook | Theatre, Dance and Cinema Works in London this September

As part of 14-18 NOW, the Barbican and Brink Productions present the UK premiere of Memorial, a theatrical adaptation of an Alice Oswald poem that reimages Homer’s Iliad. Australian actor Helen Morse is joined on stage by a 215-strong community chorus, who alongside a vocal and musical ensemble will perform Pook’s score. Conceived and directed by Chris Drummond and Yaron Lifschitz, Memorial premiered at the 2018 Adelaide Festival, and is at the Barbican Theatre from September 27-30.

From September 20-29, Sadler’s Wells welcomes the revival of the English National Ballet’s triptych Lest We Forget, commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War. The programme features Akram Khan’s award-winning ballet Dust, set to music by Pook, and will be performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic.

Battersea Arts Centre will stage the London premiere of Adam from September 18-24. This National Theatre of Scotland production with music by Pook premiered at the 2017 Edinburgh International Festival and features a digital choir of trans individuals from across the globe. Written by Frances Poet and directed by Cora Bissett, it is the true story of a young trans man from Egypt making his journey across borders and genders to find a home in Scotland.

September also brings the general UK release of 'The Wife' by Picturehouse, a 2017 drama film with an original score by Pook that premiered last month on the Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House. In UK cinemas on September 28, Björn Runge’s film is based on the novel of the same name by Meg Wolitzer and stars Glenn Close, Jonathan Pryce and Christian Slater.

Pook also scored the true crime documentary series currently trending on Netflix – The Staircase by French filmmaker Jean-Xavier de Lestrade. Her soundtrack to the series will be released digitally on all major platforms on September 9.
