Vail Dance Festival presents NOW:Premieres, a collection of commissioned new works by some of today’s most renowned emerging choreographers, performed by artists from ballet, modern, and contemporary dance.
Gabriela Lena Frank, recently awarded the 2018 Mentorship Artist Grant by the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC), has joined artistic forces with choreographer Claudia Schreier and Ballet Hispánico. On 6 August 2018, Brooklyn Rider will premiere Frank's Kanto Kechua No. 2, featuring Ballet Hispánico and dancers Chris Bloom and Dandara Veiga.
Claudia Schreier has been the Artistic Director of Claudia Schreier & Company since 2015 and has presented several full-evening performances of her choreography featuring dancers from many leading companies, including the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Miami City Ballet and Dance Theatre of Harlem. She has collaborated with musicians such as Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal and Richard Danielpour.
A Guggenheim Fellowship and Latin Grammy awardee, Frank calls herself “a chamber music composer at heart,” though the scope of her talent includes scores for larger ensembles as well, including commissions from the Seattle Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra. A former composer-in-residence with both the Detroit and Houston Symphonies, Frank will assume the same position with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Upcoming performances include Requiem for a Magical America: El Día de los Muertos at the Kennedy Center on October 28th, 2018 and again in 2020. Fort Worth Opera as commissioned the world premiere of El último sueño de Frida y Diego (The Last Dream of Frida and Diego), collaborating with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, acclaimed author of Anna in the Tropics.
