Major Premieres from Sarah Kirkland Snider in 2018

The work is 35 minutes in duration, scored for SATB chorus and large ensemble, and broken into five movements, after the traditional Ordinarium. In using a liturgical framework to explore the matter of species conservation, Snider and Bellows revel in the spiritual connection they've long felt to the natural world. Mass for the Endangered is one of many recent politicized scores — alongside Become Desert by John Luther Adams and Natural History by Michael Gordon — that address our collective impact on the environment.
This summer in London, Snider's first ballet score will be featured in a new, 35-minute work by choreographer George Williamson for Birmingham Royal Ballet. With premieres 15-16 June 2018 at Sadler's Wells (and a run at the Birmingham Hippodrome the week following), Embrace is scored for full orchestra and will weave together existing material from Unremembered and Hiraeth with original music. Snider's score to Embrace was commissioned by Birmingham Royal Ballet through their new BalletNow initiative, and will prove to be an exciting introduction to Snider's orchestral music in the UK.
A week prior, Unremembered will be performed in full at the Oranjewoud Festival, marking the Dutch premiere of its octet version. This special midnight presentation will begin at 11:59 p.m. on 9 June 2018, and conclude at 1:00 a.m. on 10 June.

Later in the summer, on 23 August 2018, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and Andreas Delfs will give the European premiere of Snider's Something for the Dark at the prestigious Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. Something for the Dark has also been announced as part of the Kansas City Symphony's subscription programming, to be performed alongside Augusta Read Thomas' EOS and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana 29-31 March 2019, under the baton of guest conductor Ryan McAdams.
