British Youth Opera presents new version of Judith Weir opera
British Youth Opera will present a new production of The Vanishing Bridegroom by Judith Weir as part of its 30th anniversary season. The opera was written in 1990 for the Glasgow City of Culture celebrations and is a dramatisation of three traditional Scottish folk tales from the west highlands, each featuring a bridegroom who disappears. Seen together, they form a continuous narrative about one marriage.
"An unsettling and important work" – John Allison, Opera journal
The new production will be directed by Stuart Barker and conducted by James Holmes, in a newly-available reduced version for chamber ensemble of 13 players that retains the full cast of the original opera.Performances take place at the Peacock Theatre in London on September 2, 6 and 8, with a further cover performance (highlights only) on September 9.
