On November 14 the Michael Nyman Band will perform at the Barbican, London celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the group’s first performance. The concert, curated by Michael Nyman, will combine rarities and some of Nyman’s best-known works in chronological order.

In October 1976 a bizarre group of musicians played Nyman’s score to Goldoni’s Il Campiello at the opening of the Olivier Theatre. Subsequently, the ensemble became the Michael Nyman Band. Formed 40 years ago this autumn, the Michael Nyman Band has become Nyman’s ‘working model’ for all his compositions, for concert hall, opera house and cinema.
