Pook at English National Ballet

M-Dao
by Yabin Wang, a new contemporary dance work with music by Jocelyn Pook, will premiere on April 13 with the English National Ballet as part of their triple bill programme of premieres, She Said. Yabin Wang is not only an internationally respected performer herself, but a leading figure in contemporary dance in China who produces works which foster collaboration between Chinese and international artists.

M-Dao fuses elements of East and West as the classical Greek myth of Medea is transported to classical China and played out behind a mesmerising silk cloth backdrop. Pook employs a number of traditional Chinese instruments to bring the tale to life though her score and Japanese designer, Kimie Nakano, who worked with Akram Khan on Jocelyn Pook’s well-received ballet Dust late last year, has created the costumes for this, Pook’s latest work.

English National Ballet’s She Said will run for four nights (with two matinée performances) at the Saddler’s Wells Theatre, April 13-16.
