News - British Composer Awards 2011 shortlist

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

BASCA has announced the 2011 British Composer Awards Shortlist, which includes three Music Sales copyrights:

Orchestral

Simon Bainbridge - Concerti Grossi

Stage Works

Joby Talbot - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

International Award

Bent Sørensen - La Mattina

The 9th annual outing of the British Composer Awards continues its tradition of throwing a bright spotlight on a diverse and multi-talented set of composers whose work over the previous year has contributed significantly to contemporary composition.

BASCA and British Composer Awards Chairman Sarah Rodgers says, "Contemporary classical music is changing – it is acquiring a common currency for the 21st century and reaching into pockets of society where there is little or no history of the classical experience. It’s an important task for BASCA and the Awards to recognise this evolution and to bring value to what may be a stepping stone to a wider experience of classical music for all."

The winners of the 2011 British Composer Awards will be unveiled at Stationers’ Hall, London on Wednesday 30 November, and a special programme devoted to the awards will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Sunday December 4.
