This wide-ranging festival, placing Sibelius’s works alongside those of Finnish contemporary composers, continues in November with a series of high profile concerts. Highlights include the series of concerts conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen at the Barbican Centre with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, performing Sibelius alongside works by Kaija Saariaho and Salonen himself. Star Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen performs more Salonen on November 13, while on November 21 pianist Ralf Gothoni and cellist Arto Noras join the English Chamber Orchestra for two chamber concertos by Aulis Sallinen; the following day in a chamber recital they come together to perform Sallinen’s recent Cello Sonata.
